Day 278/365 - The Sum of My Parts

For this week's self-portrait I decided to play around with the mulitple exposure mode on my camera. I extended my zoom all the way, held my camera out at arm's length, and tried to get close-up shots of one eye, one ear, and my mouth.

Looks like my aim was off a little, but it still turned out all right. I like how the curve of my ear blends into the line of both shots of my nose.

Day 247/365 - At the Eye Doctor

"Which is better, 1 or 2? 3 or 4?"

Had my annual visit to the eye doctor today. Thankfully my eyes haven't gotten any worse. Last year was the first time she had to up my prescription in the 9 years I've been going to her to get checked out. I sorta wish she'd get some new eye charts, though. At this point even if I couldn't see it I'd know that the smallest line read "E V O T Z." Guess lying about that would kind of defeat the point though.

I was curious so I asked her once what she did with people who were illiterate and she said she has charts with pictures of objects on them instead of letters for people who can't read, recent immigrants from places that don't use the Phoenician Alphabet, and kids who don't know their ABCs yet. Another of life's imponderable mysteries solved.

I want to get some new glasses this year, so any recommendations for Metro-accessible places with cool frames in the DC area would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Day 35/365 - Me, Myself & Eye

For this week's self-portrait we have my right eye (apologies for how gross it kinda looks in large format). My right eye isn't much different from my left, apart from having slightly worse vision.

My eyes used to be plain solid brown, but as I've gotten older they've changed color until now they're a kind of hazel that has brown, green, and yellowy parts all mixed up together (the little brown splotch at about the 8 o'clock position on my iris is the color my entire eye used to be). I'm curious to see if they'll keep changing color and eventually wind up green or something.

I used to think my Pops was a bit batty because he has always said that his eyes changed color as he got older and my Mom always told him we was full of beans because eyes don't change color. Turns out they do.

Chalk another one up for Pops.
